A lift can reshape and reposition existing tissue, but it does not add implant volume. Selected tissue-reshaping techniques or fat grafting may be discussed, but they cannot guarantee the same fullness or projection as an implant.

They may appear smaller or more compact after excess skin is removed and the tissue is reshaped, even when little breast tissue is removed. If reducing breast size or weight is the main goal, the surgeon may discuss breast reduction instead.

Possible risks include bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, delayed healing, wound separation, prominent scars, asymmetry, contour irregularity, sensation changes, difficulty breastfeeding, fat necrosis, blood-supply problems affecting the nipple or skin, blood clots, anaesthesia complications and revision surgery. 

Results can be long-lasting, but pregnancy, breastfeeding, ageing, gravity and weight changes can alter breast shape and position. Permanent scars remain even as they mature.

Many clients need approximately 10-14 days before returning to desk-based work, while strenuous activity and heavy lifting are commonly restricted for around 4-6 weeks. Individual recovery varies, so follow the treating surgeon’s instructions.

Nipple or breast sensation may increase, decrease or feel different temporarily or permanently. The surgeon will discuss this risk before consent.

There is no single best technique for everyone. The surgeon selects a periareolar, vertical or anchor pattern according to breast shape, nipple position, skin quality and the amount of skin that must be removed.

The scars may sit around the areola, extend vertically to the breast crease and, for an anchor lift, extend along the crease. The pattern depends on the degree of lifting and skin removal required. All scars are permanent, although their appearance usually changes as they mature.
