What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift
A Brazilian Butt Lift is also called gluteal fat grafting or buttock fat transfer. It combines liposuction of selected donor areas with transfer of suitable harvested fat to agreed areas of the buttocks or hip dips. It does not use a buttock implant.
Every BBL requires liposuction because the transferred fat must first be harvested from the individual’s body. Several donor areas may be needed to obtain enough suitable fat, depending on the individual’s anatomy and intended result. A BBL cannot be performed as fat transfer alone without donor-area liposuction.
Despite its name, a BBL is not the same as a surgical buttock lift. A traditional buttock lift removes excess skin and repositions tissue, while a BBL primarily uses fat transfer to change contour or volume.

How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?
Step 1. VASER Liposuction
Fat is removed from the donor areas. Several areas may be required to obtain enough suitable fat.
Step 2. Fat Preparation
The harvested fat is processed and prepared so that suitable fat can be used for transfer.
Step 3. BBL Fat Transfer
The prepared fat is carefully transferred to the agreed areas of the buttocks or hip dips to add volume and improve shape and contour.

The quote may be affected by:

How Long Should I Stay in Vietnam
Allow approximately 12–14 days in Vietnam for a BBL. A longer stay may be required for more extensive surgery, combined procedures, slower recovery or additional medical review.
Your itinerary generally allows time for:
- Arrival before surgery
- In-person surgical consultation and Pre-operative testing
- Surgery and the required hospital admission
- Post-operative reviews
- Recovery before the surgeon assesses your fitness to travel

Recovery After a BBL in Vietnam
Recovery involves both the liposuction donor areas and the fat-transfer areas. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, temporary numbness and fluid leakage from small liposuction incisions can occur during early recovery.
Compression garments, binders and foam boards are commonly worn for 6 weeks during recovery. A donut cushion or other support cushion to help reduce direct pressure on the buttocks.
As a general guide:
- First 1–2 weeks: Rest and gentle walking are encouraged. Movement may be limited, and some assistance with daily activities may be needed. Compression garments are generally worn as instructed.
- Around 2–4 weeks: Mobility usually improves, but heavy lifting and strenuous activity remain restricted. Light daily activities can gradually increase as tolerated.
- Around 4–6 weeks: Many clients can gradually return to normal daily activities. Exercise can be progressively reintroduced once cleared by the surgeon.
- 6 weeks and beyond: A gradual return to structured and higher-impact exercise may be possible once medically cleared by the surgeon.
Who May Be Considered for A BBL?
A surgeon may assess adults who:
- Are in generally good health and medically suitable for surgery and anaesthesia
- Have sufficient donor fat in appropriate areas
- Are at a stable and appropriate weight for the proposed procedure
- Have realistic expectations about volume, symmetry and fat survival
- Can follow garment, positioning, mobility and follow-up instructions

- A BBL is not a weight-loss procedure.
- You must have enough donor fat for the procedure. Leaner individuals may have limited options or may not be suitable.
- Not all transferred fat survives, and the final retained volume cannot be predicted precisely.
- More than one procedure may be required to pursue a particular contour.
- A BBL does not remove significant loose skin or replace a surgical buttock lift.
- Results can change with ageing, pregnancy, weight gain or weight loss.
- Asymmetry, contour differences and scars can remain.
- Extreme-volume requests may not be accepted.

What are the risks of Brazilian Butt Lift surgery?
Possible risks include bleeding, infection, fluid collection (seroma), asymmetry, contour irregularities, swelling, scarring, changes in sensation, wound-healing problems, skin injury, fat necrosis, loss of transferred fat, blood clots, anaesthesia complications, fat embolism, and the need for revision surgery.
Fat embolism occurs when fat enters a blood vessel and travels to the lungs or, rarely, the brain. It is a rare but potentially life-threatening risk of BBL surgery.
Is a BBL the same as a buttock lift?
No. A BBL uses fat transfer to alter contour or volume. A surgical buttock lift removes excess skin and repositions tissue. The surgeon determines which approach may address the client’s concern.
Does every BBL include liposuction?
Yes. Liposuction is required to harvest the client’s own fat, and several donor areas may be needed to obtain enough suitable fat. The quote and surgical plan must identify the included donor areas.
Does the price include VASER 360 liposuction?
No it doesn’t. Every BBL includes the donor-area liposuction required to harvest fat, but comprehensive VASER 360 torso contouring is a broader combination plan.
Can a thin person have a BBL?
Possibly, but the client must have enough suitable donor fat. Lean clients may have limited transfer options or may not be suitable.
How much transferred fat survives?
Fat survival varies and cannot be guaranteed. Some transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed, and final volume becomes clearer after swelling settles and the surviving fat stabilises.
Is BBL in Vietnam safe?
BBL carries specific risks including fat embolism. Safety depends on surgeon expertise, proper technique, and patient compliance with post-operative protocols.
Can I sit after a BBL?
You will usually need to limit direct pressure on the buttocks during the early recovery period. Your surgeon will advise when and how you can sit safely and may recommend using a support or donut cushion.
Will I need a compression garment?
Yes, compression garments are generally used after a BBL to support the liposuction donor areas during recovery. Depending on where the fat is taken from, you may also need a compression binder or foam boards. The type of compression and how long you need to wear it will be confirmed by the treating surgeon.
Are lymphatic massages included?
Yes, lymphatic massages are included. Massages can help reduce swelling, support fluid drainage and improve comfort during recovery.
